What They Make
Ohio Flame makes wood-burning steel fire pits, bowls and rings in Columbiana, Ohio. It says its products are made in the USA from American steel, mostly from mills in Ohio. It makes no gas fire pits or conversion kits.
Three collections hold the fire pits. The Patriot Collection is a carbon steel pit in a natural finish, 3/16 in thick on the sizes checked, in 24, 30, 36, 42 and 48 in. The Liberty Collection comes in the same five sizes with five base styles (standard, angled, circular, curved or hollow) and a rain drain that closes with a blocking plate. Limited releases include Stars and Stripes, Tree and Falling Leaves, and a 24 in Liberty weighs 47 lb. The Artisan Collection holds the cut-steel bowls in a patina finish, among them Stellar, Lunar, Fire Flower and Fire Chalice. The Stellar comes in 30, 37 and 41 in.
The Heavy Gauge Fire Ring is a 3/16 in steel ring, 12 in high, in 24, 30, 36 and 42 in, for an in-ground pit or a masonry pit liner. Accessories include spark screens, flat lids, log grates and a Mars modular cook grate.

How to Tell Their Pieces Apart
Every piece burns wood, so there's no fuel, burner or ignition to compare. Steel, size, base and finish are the differences.
The steel is heavy plate, welded and unpainted. Ohio Flame's lifetime warranty page says the natural finish develops an iron oxide patina and darkens over time, and thickness runs from 3/16 to 1/4 in depending on the size and model. Patriot is the plain pit. Liberty adds base styles, a rain drain you can close with a blocking plate, and the limited releases. Artisan bowls are cut decorative designs.
Cut designs leave the sides open, so we'd treat a spark screen as more important on an Artisan bowl than on a solid-walled Patriot or Liberty.
The warranty is lifetime on registered steel fire bowls. It covers structural integrity and welds, and it excludes screens, grates, paint and finishes.
Who It Suits, and Who It Doesn't
In our view, Ohio Flame fits a buyer who wants a real wood fire and a heavy pit that stays put, made in one Ohio facility. It needs no gas line, tank or ignition system.
It isn't for a buyer who wants push-button flame or low smoke. We also wouldn't put one under a covered patio or on a wood deck. Wood fires are the most restricted fuel in most of our state code pages, so read the fire code library and your local burn rules before you build.
Natural steel stains surfaces as it patinas, and the brand says so. Expect marks on light pavers.
